Speyside Specialities Shortlisted For Top Industry Awards

Buckie-based fine meats manufacturer, Speyside Specialities has been shortlisted for two categories in the prestigious Grampian Food Forum Innovation Awards 2014.

The company’s Scottish Heritage Sausage Range, comprising of steak beef and haggis, and pork and black pudding varieties, has been shortlisted for ‘best new retail product’, whilst its bespoke black pudding made exclusively for Donald Russell is up for ‘best foodservice product’.

David Lawson, Managing Director of Speyside Specialities comments, “Whilst we are more widely recognised for such retail products as our haggis, white puddings and stuffing, our development team is also continuously working to develop products that captivate new markets and provide customers with a delicious new experience. To have some of our new products shortlisted in these awards is a terrific achievement for us.

“In such a competitive market it is essential to keep abreast of trends and changing palates whilst maintaining a successful core product range. This is how many of our products have come about.

“Taking our Scottish Heritage Sausage range, for example; we have perfectly combined some of our finest products - traditional pork and beef sausages with our well-loved haggis and black puddings. Not only do these create a brand new product, but also offers customers a new taste sensation.

“Increasingly, sausages are available with added ingredients such as chilli, sage and onion etc, but there are very few on the market that combine traditional Scottish foods to create a new product.

“We are also delighted to be widening our successes in the catering market, having been shortlisted for our Donald Russell black pudding.

“Our team worked closely with the client to prepare a bespoke black pudding that was unique and tailored specifically to individual taste and needs. Using only the very best ingredients, we achieved a sensational meaty flavour that is moist and well seasoned.”

Winners will be revealed this Thursday evening (20th March, 2014) at a sit down dinner and ceremony at The Marcliffe Hotel and Spa, Aberdeen.
